Suck On That One Mexico!
For the first time since 1998 a MLS team has defeated a Liga MX team in a competition final. Atlanta United defeated Club America 3-2 last night to win the 2019 Campeones Cup. I haven’t seen so many people flip their opinions on something quiet like MLS Twitter did last night… AND I WAS LOVIN’ EVERY MINUTE OF IT. We didn’t/don’t care about Campeones Cup, CONCACAF Champions League, and the Leagues Cup because let’s face it… MLS rarely ever has a shot at winning them. And of that small percentage chance that MLS has to win, your team probably isn’t winning it (shout out to pretty much every MLS team besides two). But last night, and to you reading this… yes you, I am proud of you. We as MLS fans came together more than that time Pokemon Go dropped in 2016 and when we all came together for our sweet prince, RIP Harambe.
But back to the soccer. Last we saw a stellar performance from Darlington Nagbe, a beautiful build up play goal scored by Emerson Hyndman, a missed stupid jump PK from Josef Martinez, Josef Martinez redeeming himself and scoring the game winning PK, a Club America team having a meltdown against a MLS side, and a GOLAZO from Jeff Larentowicz… tell me the next time you’ll see all that in one game.
At the end of the day whether you think this game is important or not is irrelevant. Atlanta United came out and represented for MLS. They came out, wanted this game more, tons of players stepped up, and kept a calm cool head to win this game. Good for you Atlanta, be proud of this moment because I sure am.
