Hernan Losada OUT at CF Montreal After One Season In Charge
After only one season and forty games in charge of CF Montreal, Hernan Losada is out as manager. The 41 year old Argentine finished his time with Montreal with a record of 16 wins, 5 draws, and 19 losses. Losada now has managed two MLS clubs in his career (the other being D.C. United) and has been shown the door each after only one season in charge. CF Montreal failed to make the playoffs in 2023, finishing just outside of a play-in game spot in 10th place. Montreal also failed to make it out of their Leagues Cup group as well as losing in the Canadian Championship final to the Vancouver Whitecaps. It was a poor ending to a season in which Montreal were in control and in a playoff spot for most of the year. Now, they will look to find their 10th manager in the club’s MLS history.
Losada has proven that he is not the man for a long term project within MLS. After two individual MLS seasons with two different clubs, he was fired quickly after both. Managing MLS clubs for a total of 81 games, he has only 33 wins with 38 losses as well. Personally, I don’t think another MLS team should give Losada a shot at being manager. This is with the caveat that unless he can go find success elsewhere. Maybe he can go manage down in Argentina, return to Europe, or go be an assistant elsewhere… Losada needs to go find his success journey elsewhere.
Montreal let their best manager that they’d had in the last decade go last off-season in Wilfried Nancy. Nancy punched above the weight of what Montreal was capable of in 2022. Now, they need to go out and try to find their success elsewhere. Personally, I think that Montreal should take a look back at their own history and reach out to their inaugural MLS manager, Jesse Marsch. Outside of Marsch, I think the answers could lie in their own house. Assistant Manager Laurent Ciman could be one to throw his name into the ring. He’s a legend as a player within the club and has been a staple of MLS for close to a decade now. I would like to see what he can bring as a Manager, especially if Montreal wants to keep the hire on the cheaper side. Lastly, I will continue to vogue for Gio Savarese as an excellent manager option in all of these articles that I post.
Montreal is an interesting job option right now within MLS. They have young stars in Jonathan Sirois, George Campbell, Robert Thorkelsson, Bryce Duke, and Kwadwo Opoku. They have solid in their prime players of Mathieu Choiniere, Aaron Herrera, and Joel Waterman. They also have some veteran leaders on the squad; Samuel Piette, Ariel Lassiter, and Romell Quioto. There is a spot here for success if the correct manager comes along to hone this team in for success in 2024.
