CF Montreal Acquired Raheem Edwards From The LA Galaxy

CF Montreal have acquired left wingback Raheem Edwards from the Los Angeles Galaxy for $400,000 in GAM. The 28 year old has been a MLS veteran for a longtime now, playing for the likes of the LA Galaxy, LAFC, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire, Minnesota United, as well as CF Montreal since he began his professional career in 2015. During his time within MLS he has won a MLS Cup, a Supporters’ Shield, and 2 Canadian Championships as well as featuring for the Canadian Men’s National Team five times.

In Montreal’s last two seasons (under Wilfried Nancy and Hernan Losada) the club has played with a very distinct formation either of a 3-4-2-1 or a 3-4-3. I would assume that the plan for the Montreal front office would be to continue that tactically moving forward. So, assuming that, I think the reacquisition of Raheem Edwards is a fantastic move. Edwards is best in a team that plays with a back three. Allowing Edwards to get into his best spot as a LWB/LM, strictly focusing more on the attacking end of the game. To me this feels like Edwards is almost immediately written into that role for 2024. This also allowed 2023 breakout star Mathieu Choiniere to play more central where I like him better.

In Edwards career 214 games, he has been able to show his ability to impact a game offensively; 16 career goals and 29 assists. Next season could be a big one for him as he now has the ability to feed balls into the box to the likes of Kwadwo Opoku and Jules-Anthony Vilsaint.
