Sporting Kansas City Sign Winger Alenis Vargas From Futbol Consultants Desamparados

Leading into Sporting Kansas City II’s 2023 MLS Next Pro campaign, the club added winger Alenis Vargas on loan from the Costa Rican 2nd Division. After a very successful campaign with SKC II which included 6 goals, 7 assists, and almost 1,200 minutes played, Sporting Kansas City have decided to permanently sign the 20 year old. 

This signing feels like one for the future. I can’t see Vargas coming in and starting over anyone on the club’s starting front line; Salloi, Pulido, or Russell. I even have a tough time seeing him get minutes over guys like Khiry Shelton, Willy Agada, or Marinos Tzionis. But if Sporting Kansas City can get another year of development (and another double digit G+A season) from Vargas within MLS Next Pro, it feels like he could see major minutes for the first team in 2025.
