Colorado Rapids Sign Free Agent Winger Omir Fernandez

The Colorado Rapids have signed free agent winger Omir Fernandez. The 24 year old winger is one of the youngest free agency signings ever within MLS’s history as he makes the move out west. Fernandez has played his entire professional career within the New York Red Bulls organization. Between 2019 - 2023, Fernandez would make 134 appearances in total for the Red Bulls organization (130 appearances for the Red Bulls first team). During his run with the Red Bulls, Fernandez scored 19 goals and tacked on 11 assists as well.

Though his numbers aren’t going to blow anyone off their feet, Omir has proven to be a quality player. He has even shown some skill to prove that he might be able to excel outside of the “energy drink soccer” system as well. With the current wingers on the Colorado Rapids roster, I’d argue that Fernandez is easily the best. Fernandez brings the mix of MLS experience (even at his young age) and current quality that was missing from this roster last season. This was a very strong move for Armas to bring in a familiar face to begin his time managing the Rapids.
