FC Cincinnati Sign USMNT Star Miles Robinson
FC Cincinnati have signed free agent centerback Miles Robinson. The 26 year old centerback was the star free agent this MLS off-season and he is headed to the reigning Supporters’ Shield winners. The U.S. Men’s National Team defender reportedly had a ton of interest from Europe but decided to sign with FC Cincinnati on a deal through the 2024 MLS season with an option for the 2025 season. Robinson has spent his entire career within the Atlanta United system, playing 150 games with Atlanta since 2017. In those 150 games, Robinson has scored 4 goals and recorded 5 assists. Robinson won the 2018 MLS Cup, 2019 US Open Cup, 2019 Campeones Cup, was a 2019 and 2021 MLS Best XI defender, and 2021 MLS All Star all with Atlanta United. With the U.S. Men’s National Team Robinson has recorded 27 caps, 3 goals, 1 assist, winning the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2022/2023 CONCACAF Nations League.
FC Cincinnati were eliminated from the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs for a lot of reasons… but one of them was centerback depth. Nick Hagglund was out with an injury and we all know what happened with Matt Miazga, FC Cincinnati was down to two true centerbacks while playing in a back three. I think one major concern that Cincy wanted to, and clearly have, addressed this off-season was adding centerback talent. FC Cincinnati now have signed Miles Robinson and Kipp Keller to join their centerback core of Matt Miazga, Nick Hagglund, Ian Murphy, and a few youngsters. Cincy now have the strongest defensive core in MLS if you ask me, highlighted by two stud USMNT defenders.
