San Jose Earthquakes Re-Sign Tommy Thompson Ahead Of 2024 Season
The San Jose Earthquakes have re-signed rightback Tommy Thompson ahead of the 2024 season. The 28 year old HomeGrown defender will now join the Quakes for an 11th season in Northern California. Thompson has played in 221 career games for the Earthquakes, scoring 5 goals and recording 15 assists. Thompson also has an additional 21 games played while on loan in the USL Championship (played for Reno 1868 FC and Sacramento Republic FC).
Thompson is one of the most versatile players for San Jose, being able to play both fullback positions, winger, and even some central midfield. Overall, Thompson is primarily a rightback and now joins the Quakes rightback group of Carlos Akapo and Oscar Verhoeven. I expect Thompson to be the primary backup rightback to Akapo for the 2024 season, but it would not surprise me if Verhoeven got some increase in minutes as well.
