Orlando City Kickoff Off-Season With Facundo Torres Transfer!
Orlando City have kicked off their 2025 by selling one of their top players over the last few seasons. Orlando has transferred Uruguay National Team winger Facundo Torres to Brazilian giants Palmeiras. The sale number has not been reported, but according to Tom Bogert, this would be a new club-record transfer for the Lions. The last club-record deal was the transfer of Daryl Dike to West Brom for $9.5m. I would assume this is at least an eight figure deal for Orlando.
The 24 year old Torres delivered during his time with Orlando City. He brought home to Orlando their first ever MLS-era trophy, the 2022 U.S. Open Cup. Overall, Torres played in 123 games for the club finishing with 47 goals, 20 assists, and the club’s all time leading goal scorer. Last season, Torres finished with 27 goal contributions across all competitions, a number that the club now needs to figure out where it will come from in 2025.
Outside of the Facundo Torres departure, Orlando City has re-signed versatile defender Kyle Smith. The 32 year old has played both fullback positions as well as centerback over the years for Orlando. The 2022 U.S. Open Cup Champion with Orlando City played roughly 1,600 minutes last season across all competitions. He should once again be another awesome defensive depth piece for the club in 2025. Lastly, the club signed 17 year old HomeGrown defensive midfielder Colin Guske from their MLS Next Pro side Orlando City B. The current U.S. youth international had his first ever professional club season in 2024, scoring 1 goal and recording 2 assists in roughly 2,200 minutes for OCB.
