FIFA 20 MLS & USMNT Player Ratings
So the internet is buzzing about the soon drop of FIFA 20 and just like every year we are getting reactions, videos, tweets, and anything else about certain players ratings. I have yet to find a nice little MLS/U.S. centered breakdown of some of these things, so I am here to bring that to you all today. As a big fan of FIFA, I may read into the ratings a little too much at times… but isn’t that what we are supposed to do as fans? We overreact! Let me know what you guys think about these ratings, who should be higher, lower, and who got screwed.
First let’s start with some USMNT player ratings. Let’s look overall at the top 10 USMNT players in FIFA 20:
1. Christian Pulisic – Chelsea – 79
2. John Anthony Brooks – Wolfsburg – 79
3. Tyler Adams – RB Leipzig – 76
4. Jozy Altidore – Toronto FC – 76
5. Michael Bradley – Toronto FC – 76
6. Fabian Johnson – Borussia Monchengladbach – 76
7. DeAndre Yedlin – Newcastle – 76
8. Weston McKennie – Schalke – 76
9. Zack Steffen – Fortuna Dusseldorf – 76
10. Aaron Long – New York Red Bulls – 75
Now first thoughts here are that Pulisic got screwed out of an 80 rating. Our U.S. Baby Soccer Jesus deserves more than this!!!! But overall I can’t complain too much about these ratings. I feel that Jozy and Michael might be a little too high (more Michael than Jozy). If FIFA is trying to tell me that Weston McKennie is not a clearly better player than DeAndre, Fabian, Michael, and Jozy… I have no idea what they are smoking. And why all the 76s? I think the U.S. soccer FIFA rater must have been staying in Philly or something.
Now let’s move onto the top 10 USMNT players that are playing in Major League Soccer:
1. Jozy Altidore – Toronto FC – 76
2. Michael Bradley – Toronto FC – 76
3. Aaron Long – New York Red Bulls – 75
4. Darlington Nagbe – Atlanta United – 75
5. Alejandro Bedoya – Philadelphia Union – 74
6. Ike Opara – Minnesota United – 74
7. Bill Hamid – D.C. United – 74
8. Luis Robles – New York Red Bulls - 74
9. Cristian Roldan – Seattle Sounders – 73
10. Tim Parker – New York Red Bulls – 73
Okay… immediately this list pissed me off. Then I honestly took a step back and really thought how disappointing the list of USMNT players in MLS really is. Do I still think Jozy is a top level striker for us and arguably the best USMNT player in MLS? Yes. So fine I won’t touch him there. But there is no way that right now you can tell me that Alejandro Beodya is that much of a better player than Jordan Morris, Paxton Pomykal, Jackson Yueill, Miles Robinson, or Reggie Cannon. And finally, can someone at FIFA put more respect on Ike Opara’s name! Please!
Let’s now steer away from USMNT talk and dive into the top 10 best players in MLS. Now spoiler here… no USMNT player made this list, which is an issue on it’s own but here it is:
1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – LA Galaxy – 85
2. Carlos Vela – LAFC – 83
3. Josef Martinez – Atlanta United – 81
4. Nicolas Gaitan – Chicago Fire – 81
5. Ignacio Piatti – Montreal Impact – 80
6. Nani – Orlando City SC – 80
7. Cristian Pavon – LA Galaxy – 79
8. Diego Valeri – Portland Timbers – 79
9. Brian Fernandez – Portland Timbers – 77
10. Gustavo Bou – New England Revolution – 77
Now besides the whole, no Americans on the list, I really have no issues besides probably Gaitan and Nacho. Gaitan coming over to the Fire and MLS hasn’t been the most successful signing. He hasn’t been a top 5 player in the league what-so-ever. Also, Nacho Piatti is a legend of MLS and I love him as a player… he has been injury prone and inconsistent in recent memory. FIFA please do your damn homework!
