Columbus Crew SC Re-Sign Three Players Including Steven Moreira and Rudy Camacho
The Columbus Crew have re-signed defenders Steven Moreira and Rudy Camacho as well as goalkeeper Evan Bush. Moreira and Camacho played a huge part in the Columbus Crew winning the 2023 MLS Cup title over LAFC only a few days ago. Moreira did one of the best jobs we’ve seen in locking down Denis Bouanga in the 2023 MLS Cup Final.
Moreira is a 29 year old Cape Verde international who has now won a MLS Cup and Campeones Cup during his three seasons in Columbus. Outside of doing a fantastic job of converting from right-back to right-centerback, Moreira impacted the Crew’s season at a high level on the offensive end as well. He ended up playing over 3,700 minutes (across all competitions), scoring 1 goal, and recording 8 assists. He will be a key starting piece alongside Rudy Camacho on Columbus’s backline in 2024.
Rudy Camacho also had to make some changes last season to help the Crew win the Cup. Camacho had to head down south from Montreal to Columbus via trade to reunite with Manager Wilfried Nancy. The 32 year old centerback has been in MLS since 2018 when he joined Montreal. Known as one of the better on-ball defenders in MLS, Camacho found continued success playing once again under Nancy. He was able to win his first MLS Cup on this run and now will return to help lead Nancy’s backline in 2024.
Finally, the return of Evan Bush. The MLS veteran returns to Columbus for 2024 where he served as the backup goalkeeper to youngster Patrick Schulte for a majority of the 2023 season. Bush was able to get some minutes within the U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup, being able to record 1 shutout in his 5 matches played. This is a smart move for Columbus to retain a talented veteran backup to help support and allow for the growth of a guy like Patrick Schulte in net.
