LAFC & Italian National Team Legend Giorgio Chiellini Retires

Italian National Team legend Giorgio Chiellini has retired from professional soccer. After a long career at Juventus in the Italian Serie A, LAFC surprised many by going out and signing the aging defender. The move received a lot of criticism by many, including myself. However, the legendary centerback proved many wrong and logged a ton of minutes for LAFC during his season and a half on the west coast.

Chiellini would end up playing a little over 3,000 minutes for the club, playing in 4 finals, winning 2 trophies, and being one of their defensive stallworths alongside Jesus Murillo. He was unable to play in their 2022 MLS Cup winning match over the Philadelphia Union, but he did play a large role in their playoff run leading to that game. With a MLS Cup Championship and Supporters’ Shield to his name, his impact on the city of Los Angeles won’t be forgotten anytime soon. His presence, intelligent positioning, and leadership were key to helping LAFC continue to be one of the most dominant clubs in the region.

Grazie Giorgio!
