D.C. United Trade For Centerback Garrison Tubbs From Atlanta United
D.C. United have traded for centerback Garrison Tubbs from Atlanta United. Earlier in this off-season Atlanta United signed Tubbs as a HomeGrown player. Tubbs just finished playing his soccer at Wake Forest University and has been viewed as one of the top centerbacks coming out of the NCAA. Now, Tubbs is headed from Atlanta to our nation’s capital to start his professional soccer career. Atlanta United received $125,000 in GAM with the potential for another $150,000 in incentive based performances. The 21 year old was a MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist this past NCAA season where he played roughly 1,600 minutes for the Demon Deacons. In four seasons at Wake Forest, Tubbs played in 68 games while playing a total of 5,792 minutes.
Tubbs joins a centerback group that consists of; Steve Birnbaum, Lucas Bartlett, Matai Akinmboni, and Hayden Sargis. With a very young and inexperienced group, Tubbs does have an opportunity to get some meaningful professional minutes sooner rather than later. With D.C. having no official MLS Next Pro club, I would think they have a plan for Tubbs on the first team, even if it's just for some extra depth. But, as of right now, D.C. still has no manager and are in need for a lot more help before they can even think about game one of their 2024 campaign.
