LA Galaxy Trade For Striker Miguel Berry From Atlanta United
The Los Angeles Galaxy have acquired striker Miguel Berry from Atlanta United in exchange for a 2024 2nd Round MLS SuperDraft selection. The 26 year old Berry has had a rollercoaster of an MLS career so far. After being drafted in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, Berry would then go on loan from Columbus to the new defunct USL Championship side San Diego Loyal for 6 games. In those games he would score 2 goals and record 2 assists. In 2021, Berry would get his chance in Columbus to play. Berry would get some early season action, playing a little over 100 minutes within CONCACAF Champions League, make his MLS debut in May, but then once again be sent on loan to San Diego. Berry would have another strong loan performance in the USL Championship, scoring 3 goals and recording 1 assist in a little over 400 minutes played. This forced Columbus to recall Berry from his loan and get him into the fold. Berry would score his first MLS goal that July against Cincinnati, leading to a regular season finish of 8 goals.
In 2022, Berry would only get the chance to play in 17 games for the Crew. He struggled during that stretch only scoring 2 goals for the club. That summer, Columbus would trade Berry to D.C. United where his struggles would continue… failing to score in 14 games played with them. Before the 2023 season, Berry would be traded to Atlanta United where he was initially slated to be the backup striker option for the club. Berry once again would struggle has he only scored 1 goal last season in a little over 1,100 minutes played. At this point, Miguel Berry is about two seasons removed from being a reliable striker within MLS. Now, the ability is still obviously there for a striker still in his prime seasons. If Greg Vanney can get a glimpse of the 2021 version of Miguel Berry sitting behind Dejan Joveljic… then the LA Galaxy got themselves some cheap goal scoring depth. I am a fan of Berry and I have some hope that 2024 could be the bounce back season that he has been needing. Especially when you think about Berry potentially playing in front of a guy like Riqui Puig in the midfield.
